Places for Nonprofits to Work

Community Need
Quality, affordable office and workspaces are difficult for nonprofits to find and retain in Silicon Valley, where costs are among the highest in the nation.

Our Philanthropic Response
The Sobrato family has leveraged its greatest asset - real estate - by donating and converting two office business parks into multi-tenant nonprofit centers: Sobrato Center for Nonprofits Milpitas, and Sobrato Center for Nonprofits San Jose. A third Center in Redwood Shores will open in late 2011.

A growing community of 40 nonprofit organizations already occupies 165,000 square feet of rent-free office space, enabling dollars typically spent on overhead to be directed to programs and services. The Centers support the various missions and client beneficiaries of these tenant organizations, and provide a stable work environment - rare in a tumultuous rental market. The total annual value of donated space is approximately $3.1 million.
